Summer League

We are playing a bit more ultimate these days, I'm captaining our summer league team. Things are a bit more laid back up here than in Denver. Most noticeably, 'ultimate time' is very real up here. Games scheduled to start at 6 will typically get going about 6:45 or 7 with stragglers arriving over the course of the game.
The fields.

We also tried out our fishing gear with Suzanne and Carla. We didn't catch anything, curses.

And this is bit overdue, but Jes and I and a couple friends spent Solstice on the rock beach near Kincaid Park. I'm pretty sure this picture was taken at the end of the longest day of the year.
Cheers.

Cruisin'

So Suzanne, Carla, Jes, and I went down to Seward for a 6 hour cruise around Resurrection Bay. Puffins, orcas, humpbacks, glaciers, and sea lions were seen, it was very fun.

Visitors!

Suzanne and her friend Carla got into town yesterday, we promptly took them out for good pizza at Moose's Tooth then up to the Glen Alps trailhead for some Solstice eve sunset viewing. All of these pictures were taken at about 11:45 pm, yes.

We saw the Loch Ness monster!

Yes, yes we did, see picture for evidence (click image for full-size, it makes a difference)...
Simply incredible, how I ask could the Loch Ness monster make it's way from a land locked lake in Scotland to Cordova?
I guess that's why it's the Loch Ness monster, because it can do stuff like that.

Daylight!

The following photos were taken at 11:38 pm on June 13, 2010. At some point this summer we are going to stay up all night just to see how dark it gets. We've been told it doesn't get dark, it's just an extended twilight. We will find out for ourselves soon.
Woohoo!

Cheers,

Poultry Days Triathlon Team

A lot of friends from Denver were in Versailles, Ohio for the great Poultry Days. After a good phone conversation with a good chunk of the team, Jes and I decided that we would run the triathlon on Saturday in our P-Days jerseys from last year.
The only tribute more fitting would be drinking beer out of a whiffle ball bat and watching Brett go crazy on some local kids.
The triathlon went well for both of us. It was Jes's second and my first, we recieved medals and t-shirts for finishing as well as all the free gatorade and muffins we could stomach. A couple pictures...
Jes at the start.
Me preparing for the transitions. Timmy D if you're reading this, note Gunther, he did well for me.

Yes! We finished.

Eagle River Yurt

It's been a busy but very good weekend. On Saturday, Jes and I headed out to Eagle River to spend the night at a yurt that our friend Kyle and his parents had reserved. Eagle River runs through a beautiful valley and the yurt was a short hike from the trailhead.
We had great weather and good company on both days.

Alaska is turned green seemingly overnight, a welcome change from the brown of break-up.

The light and other miscellania

Yesterday Jes and I ran the Twilight 12k (click link for the course map), it was quite a race taking us all over Anchorage. There were about 1,400 runners and the weather was great for it, just a bit overcast, no wind, and cool temperatures. We both ran it in good style and are doing quite well the day after minus a few sore joints. Since we both were running, there are no pictures to commemorate our triumph.
However, when we got back home at 10:30 or so after the post-race festivities (free beer, pizza, and all the fruit you could want), we took a couple pictures of the light outside.
The light up here is really fantastic.

Best,

Dave and Jes

No Road

More pictures from Cordova...
Here's a rather large vista, the glacier that feeds this river is off camera to the right.

A well placed bench.

Cordova!

Jes and I spent the weekend in Cordova and it was fantastic. We had great weather for all three days. There is a lot to see and do down there, on the second day we kayaked out into Prince William Sound and got a visit from this guy...
He kept popping up and diving back down but he followed us for quite a while. More pictures to come from a great weekend.
Cheers.
