The days are growing longer and the sun is rising about 5 minutes earlier everyday. A couple pictures from a particularly good sunrise yesterday morning.

Sushi and skiin'
On Saturday we went out for sushi for our friend Josh's birthday. The food, company, and evening were excellent.
A fair amount of Sapporo was drunk.
On Sunday, I went for a long ski with my friend Scott. We didn't intend it to be as long as it was but with the skiing trails being so plentiful around, we got a bit carried away.
We tried to stick to the Tour of Anchorage route but...
...we got a bit sidetracked, pretty neat sign.

Skiin'
The temperatures have risen from the bottom of the thermometer. The rising mercury has brought more comfort and a fair amount of snow. I got out for a nice morning ski along the Coastal Trail.

A couple random pictures...
Here are a few random pictures from recent occurences...
The light is coming back and it's getting more noticeable everyday.
Pre-game drills and huddle before the game against Anchorage Christian.
As a joke gift for Jes's party, a fullsize cutout of R Patts was purchased.
Arther was not impressed.

Skiin'
Busy times up north, Jes is getting into the heart of the basketball season and I have just finished up applying to graduate schools. With my newfound free time, I've been doing a lot of skate skiing.
My skis and in the background, one of the entrances to Kincaid Park. A good way to pass time in the dark.

The hoar frost is back
We've had a couple overcast days this week and an inversion looks to be settling in. While it makes for gloomy days, there's lots of hoar frost to go around.
See above reference to the gloom...
and the hoar frost.

California - Part Deux
A couple days in on our vacation, we ventured up to Temecula for some wine and olive oil tasting.
This told us we were in the right place.
After several glasses of this stuff, we found ourselves easily convinced to buy a couple bottles. Ponte Winery makes some delicious wines.
We made our way back to Oceanside where I ventured out for a morning swim.
We drove up to visit Jes's uncle and his family. They live in Hollywood, if you click the image you can see the famous sign at the far, far end of the street.
Maria was a very gracious host, she gave me a couple pointers on how to play an accordion, fantastic.
Neat storefront near their house.
We made a stop-off at Jes's brother's crib, I'm a big fan of the 'High Fidelity' poster.
Fun with spoons and cameras.
One more California sunset and we were on our way back to the AK!

Happy New Year's
Jes and I went up to Sharon's for their neighborhood New Year's Eve party. After eating some delicious food, notably the crab mac n' cheese, we went outside for the neighborhood fireworks show.
It turned out to be quite a show so I took a bunch of pictures...
Cool.
Made cooler because we were only 50 feet away from where they were shooting them off.
Yes.
Happy New Years!
Cheers,
